Rockhampton open day showcases Inclusive Employment Australia in Capricornia

IDEAL Placement’s new Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) Rockhampton office marked International Day of People with Disability with an introductory open day for invited community guests.
Capricornia staff welcomed attendees, guided them through the new office, and provided an overview of IEA and our work in the region. PowerPoint presentations displayed throughout the space sparked strong interest, particularly around our Skilling Queenslanders for Work projects and recent NAIDOC events. Our 2024 video presentation for International Day of People with Disability also received positive feedback.
Area Manager, Melissa Holmes, opened the event by sharing IDEAL Placement’s story before introducing the IEA team. While attendance was lower than usual due to competing events across the region, the morning delivered meaningful conversations, quality networking, and several new connections.
We were honoured to have Rockhampton Mayor Tony Williams join us. He officially welcomed IDEAL to the region and shared insights into the local landscape, reinforcing opportunities for IEA participants. Local MP Donna Kirkland sent her apologies but has requested a visit early in the new year, which we look forward to hosting. Future meetings coordinated with our Community Liaison Officer will support our ongoing visibility across Capricornia and strengthen connections with partners and stakeholders.
A highlight of the day was hearing directly from one of our participants, who provided thoughtful feedback about the office environment and what would help him feel more comfortable during appointments. His insights were invaluable and will help ensure the space works well for everyone.
The event also provided a rare moment for the full Capricornia team to come together, connect as a group, and engage with guests.
Overall, it was a successful and productive morning, and we look forward to hosting future events that continue to showcase our work, welcome community partners, and create opportunities for current and future participants.
