Participant Cycles Towards Full-Time Employment in Mackay

Recently, a participant in Mackay faced a common challenge: reliable transport to her new full-time role.

Having previously worked only one to two shifts a month, this participant was thrilled to secure a position offering four to five hours of work, five days a week. However, the bus routes did not align with her early start times, creating a significant hurdle. Our team worked closely with her, exploring options, and together we decided a bicycle would be the perfect solution.

The excitement was palpable as we looked at bike, helmet, and lock options online. The participant described it as “Christmas in July”, a moment of pure joy and anticipation. Collecting the bike together provided a light-hearted moment, as we marvelled at how perfectly it fit into a small Holden Astra, much to our amusement at the shopping centre.

When asked if she was comfortable assembling the bike, her confident reply, “I’ve nearly completed a civil engineering certificate so if I can’t, we both have an issue,” highlighted her resilience and capability.
