Enjoying NAIDOC on the Bowen Foreshore

Ideal Placements joined community members on the Bowen foreshore to celebrate NAIDOC Week with great company, storytelling, and unforgettable bush tucker.

We were proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week on the beautiful Bowen foreshore alongside community members and participants. The afternoon was filled with laughter, shared stories, and hands-on cultural learning—reminding us why NAIDOC is such an important time to honour history, culture and achievement.

A highlight of the day was the incredible spread prepared by Bush Tucka Foods. Guests enjoyed damper, crocodile, kangaroo and a fragrant lemon myrtle dessert—many trying these flavours for the first time. Janelle and Max guided everyone through each dish, explaining the ingredients and preparation methods so the tasting was as educational as it was delicious.

True to form, “Blowin’ Bowen” brought the breeze, but the setting couldn’t have been better. Local young people shared fond memories of their grandma’s cooking traditions, adding a personal touch to a day centred on culture and connection. Our CTA participants joined in the fun, sharing lunch and embracing the opportunity to experience different foods together.

We extend a big thank you to everyone who made the day special—especially Janelle and Max from Bush Tucka Foods—and to all who came along to celebrate culture and community during NAIDOC Week.
